2019 Runningbacks

There’s a lot more questions coming into this season than we anticipated last December.  Ezekiel Elliott is currently holding out.  Melvin Gordon is too and also has requested a trade.  Todd Gurley went from the top to injured.  Now concerns over health and work load are making people nervous.  Will Leveon Bell be a top back in New York or will his numbers decline after a year off?

David Johnson had a disappointing 2018.  A new offense and quarterback could ignite him back to a 2,000 yard season.  The added veterans to the offensive line could help that happen.  Rookies like David Montgomery have to be owned.  I see him catching a lot of passes out of the backfield this season.  The Bears will lean on both Montgomery and Cohen.  Josh Jacobs could be inline for a big role.  Oakland will have to run more to make him a viable start each week.  Jacobs didn’t get a lot of carries at Alabama.  So he hasn’t taken a lot of hits.  Jacobs also could be a fade candidate if he does have get the bulk of the carries. His pass catching abilities will help him score points.  Look out for Damien Harris in New England.  Sony Michel has had health issues over the years and Michel could be managed during the season to keep him healthy.  Harris is a third round pick and could get some of that work.

If Ezekiel Elliott wasn’t holding out, he’d be a top two selection.  If he falls and you want to take a chance, make sure you draft Tony Pollard.  He’s going to get a fair chance at his share of the work if he keeps playing well. The earliest i’d gamble on Elliott is the third round.  Keep an eye on the situation and if they’re getting close at all.  Melvin Gordon could very well sit out the season with one year left on his rookie deal.  Consider Austin Ekeler and Justin jackson in later rounds.  Both will get work, Ekeler has had a history with injuries.
